Wanda J. VanFleet, 86 of Alexis, died Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at Genesis Senior Living. Services will be Wednesday at 10:00 AM at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. Burial will be in Viola Cemetery. Visitation is Tuesday from 5 to 7 PM at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Mercer County VFW Auxiliary.
Wanda Joyce Burns was born on July 19, 1932 in Burlington, Iowa to Martin & Mabel (Stevens) Burns. She was a graduate of Aledo High School. Wanda married Melvin McCaw on August 6, 1950. From this union 4 children were born: Roger, Rick, Lori and Pam. They later divorced. On March 24, 1979, Wanda married Fred R. VanFleet. Wanda gained four step-children: Danny, Jim & Tony VanFleet and Cindy VanFleet-Griffin.
Wanda was a dedicated homemaker and farm wife. After her children were in school, she worked as a secretary for Country Companies. Wanda enjoyed her flowers and working in her yard. She loved a bargain and never missed a flea market.
Those left to cherish Wanda’s memory include her children and spouses: Roger & Sally McCaw and Rick & Shelly McCaw, all of Aledo; Lori & Ed Kennedy of Brookfield, MO; son-in-law, Ty Gainey of Orion; sister, Evelyn Lemon of Aledo; Grandchildren: B.J. & Michelle McCaw; Matthew & Michelle McCaw; Meagan McCaw; Bridget Carlson; Michael & Sarah Thompson; Sommer & Peter Hansen; Kelsey Kennedy; Morgan Gainey, Shonna Gainey; Trudy & Steve Lacefield and Tracy & Eric Malmstead; and many great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Pam Gainey; brother-in-law, Richard Lemon and a great-granddaughter, Valerie Carlson.
