Steven C. McGuire

Steven C. McGuire, 67 of Joy, died peacefully on November 15, 2024, with his family at his side. A celebration of life will be held on November 30th from 2 to 5 PM at the Mercer County VFW (downstairs). Memorials may be made to the Joy Fire Department. Speer Funeral Home, Aledo is assisting the family.

Steven Charles was born on March 6, 1957, in Davenport, Iowa to Charles E. & Carolyn (Kline) McGuire. He married Kathleen Yaw at the Mercer County Courthouse on November 24, 2021, but had a celebration later at their home with all their family and friends. 

Steve dedicated his life to law enforcement. He started as an officer with Keithsburg and Seaton, moved onto the City of Aledo and the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office. He retired as Public Safety Officer from the Quad City International Airport. He was also a volunteer with the Seaton and Joy Fire Departments.

In his spare time Steve loved to spend time outdoors, and was a weather enthusiast, always watching to see when it was best to be outside or travel. He was a jack of all trades who always had a project going and could fix or make anything. He had just finished building his own pallet bar and planting over 50 mums at his home and many bulbs for spring flowers. During the summer he always had a large vegetable garden and enjoyed sharing the fruits of his labor. Steve and his son, Dan, had just put up blinds to go deer hunting, which they enjoyed doing every fall. Fishing on the Mississippi and in the Bay down in New Boston was also a favorite past time. Steve loved all things Irish and he and Kathy shared a special trip to Ireland in 2022.

Those left to cherish Steve’s memory include his wife, Kathy; son, Dan McGuire of Bryan, Ohio; step-sons, Doug (Holly)Lamkin of Aledo & Nathan (Mikayla Cummings) Lamkin of Ankeny, IA; grandchildren: Jaxon McGuire, Sydney, Cooper and Harper Lamkin; his Brother, Phillip McGuire of Omaha, NE and sister, Nadine (Todd) Coulter of Aledo. He was preceded in death by his parents.
