Mary Louise Cameron, 87 of Aledo, died Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at Genesis Senior Living, Aledo. Funeral Services will be Saturday at 12:00 Noon at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. Visitation is prior to services, beginning at 10:30 AM. Burial will be in Aledo Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Churches of Mercer County Food Pantry.
Mary was born on October 24, 1930 in Drury Township, Rock Island County, the daughter of Earl & Ruth Marie (Whitehall) Hampton. She attended rural grade schools and graduated from Rock Island High School in 1948. She then graduated from St. Anthony’s School of Nursing in 1951.
Mary married Richard Coe Cameron on November 17, 1951 at the Aledo United Methodist Church. He preceded her in death on June 1, 1974.
Mary worked as a registered nurse at Mercer County Hospital, most often in the surgery department, retiring in 1989. She loved taking care of people and helping family and friends. She was an expert seamstress. While living in Monmouth, she was a member of the Monmouth Hospital Auxiliary. She was a former member of the Aledo United Methodist Church.
Mary is survived by three daughters: Sandra (James) Dunbar of Biggsville; Nancy (Darrell) Thompson of Sherrard and Vickie (Michael) Aarons of Marietta, GA; 5 grandchildren: Stacy (Joe) DeVoss of Viola; Chad (Beth) Thompson of Roscoe, IL; Amy (Larry) Myers of Monmouth; Christopher Aarons of Henderson, NV and Mary Aarons of Marietta, GA; 8 great-grandchildren: Taelor Cooper; McCree, Riley & Natalee DeVoss; Aidan & Andrew Myers; Mackenzie & Brock Thompson; a brother, Don Hampton of Aledo; Sisters: Verna (Charles) DeClerck of Aledo; Elaine Rommel of East Moline; Jan (Mike) Brinkman of Washington, IL and Joyce Hill of Maryville, IL and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brother, John Hampton; Sister, Delores Anderson; 2 sisters-in-law, Barb and Eileen Hampton; 3 brothers-in-law, Wayne Anderson, Stanley Rommel and Leonard Hill.
