Kent Gerber, 73 of Aledo, passed away Friday, October 18, 2024, at Mercy One Genesis, Aledo Medical Center, surrounded by the love of his family. Funeral services will be Wednesday, Oct. 23rd at 11:00 AM at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. Burial will be in Aledo Cemetery. Visitation is Tuesday from 4 to 7 PM at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Aledo Fire Department.
Kent Michael Gerber was born on February 7, 1951, in Davenport, Iowa to H.M. “Mike” & Verna Lenore (French) Gerber. He graduated from Aledo High School in 1969 and Carl Sandburg College in 1972. Kent and Connie Brownlee were married on July 14, 1972, in Norwood, Illinois.
Kent was a car guy. He not only worked in the automotive business, but his hobby was cars too. Kent worked for Lohse Automotive Parts Plus for 27 years and then O’Reilly Auto Parts for 17 years. He was a member of the Kountry Run Car Club, where he showcased his 1969 Plymouth Satellite. Kent loved going to car shows and auctions. He especially loved the trip with family to see the Barret Jackson Auto Auction in Arizona. His interests were not only in big cars, but he also had a huge collection of model cars among his vast collection of items. He would collect anything, but especially liked advertisements.
Kent devoted 37 years to the Aledo Volunteer Fire Department, retiring in 2018 as Deputy Chief. But retirement didn’t halt his involvement, he still helped when needed and made sure to stop in for coffee every morning.Kent loved the fire department and his cars, but his family came first. He never missed a school event, sporting event or anything the family had going. He even went to Disney for a granddaughter’s dance event. His kids and grandkids knew they could count on him whenever they needed anything.
Those left to cherish Kent’s memory include his wife of 52 years, Connie: his children and their families: Traci & Donnie Yates and son, Kyle; Jon Gerber & Kathy Marlow and grandchildren: Sage, Jayden & Sydney; and Brian & Kayde Gerber and daughters, Karlee & Tinlee. Kent will be especially missed by his canine companion, Kayce. Kent was preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother-in-law: Kimberley & Al Wilcox and twin granddaughters, Madison Payge & Danika Mychelle.
