Funeral services for Joan M. Jenkins, 85 of Viola, will be Tuesday at 10:30 AM at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. Visitation is Monday from 4 to 7 PM. Burial will be in Viola Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Viola Fire Protection District or the Alzheimer’s Association. Joan died Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at Avonlea Cottage, Milan.
Joan Mabel was born on July 29, 1932 to Russell C. & Mildred (Johansen) Heeren. She married Edward G. Jenkins on April 1, 1950 in Viola. He preceded her in death on August 24, 2006.
Joan and Ed were members of the Blackhawk Budgie Fanciers for 10 years. They enjoyed raising parakeets, cockatiels, finches and traveling to shows around the upper Midwest. Joan also enjoyed doing crafts, especially painting. She shared her love of art by volunteering for 20 years at Winola Grade School. Joan also loved to garden, embroider and had a special canine companion, Babe.
Joan is survived by her children and spouses: Brenda Williams of Davenport; Robert “Bob” & Geneva Jenkins of Aledo; Lois Loving of Oquawka; Duane & Michele and Russell & Cheryl all of Viola; Grandchildren and spouses: Dawn & Bob Walsh; Sarah Foor; Chris Stott; Jeff Jenkins; Tony & Kelly Loving; Lori Loving; Lisa & Richie Loving -Smith; Bradley & Cole Nichols; Jason & Allison Jenkins; Shane & Jennifer Jenkins and Courtnie & William Wyant; Many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; Sister: Jeanette Tripplett & husband, Earl of Sciotoville, OH and sister-in-law, Lettie Heeren of new Carlisle, OH. Joan was preceded in death by her parents; step-mother, Julia Heeren; her husband and siblings: Janet, Joyce and Ron.
