Jimmy L. Sackville, 82 of Aledo, died Monday at Genesis Medical Center, Aledo. Services will be Friday at 10:30 AM at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. Burial will be in Candor Cemetery, rural Seaton, IL. Visitation is Thursday from 4 to 8 PM at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
Jimmy was born on May 14, 1935 in Rock Island, County to Ray W. & Mary (Eckhardt) Sackville. He attended Excelsior School near Buffalo Prairie and graduated from Aledo High School in 1953. He was an avid ball player in his youth, having played for the Marston Midgets and many church leagues over the years. He loved baseball, especially the Chicago Cubs, of which he tried out for the Cubs right out of high school.
Jimmy and Patricia L. Frerkes were united in marriage on May 19, 1956 in Davenport, Iowa. They farmed together near Marston for many years. He enjoyed being a cattle buyer for both Monmouth and Viola Sale Barns. Jimmy also was an over the road truck driver. In 1977 he started his own business, Sackville Construction, Inc. Jimmy and Patty loved to travel, even going to Europe to see the Sackville Royal House. He enjoyed raising horses, boating on the Mississippi and gardening, especially his flowers. Jimmy’s pride and joy were his family and he loved to attend his grandchildren’s events.
Those left to cherish Jimmy’s memory include his wife of 61 years, Patty; children: Monte & Tracy Sackville; Randy & Sherie Sackville; Laurie & Joe Lower; Todd Sackville and Jana Ragsdale; and James and Mary Beth Sackville all of Aledo; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and one lovingly expected; two sisters: Verlea Reed of Lake Montezuma, AZ and Elaine Siebke of Aledo. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Shannon Rose; a brother, Robert (Rocky) Sackville, a grandson-in-law, B.J. Luxmore and a nephew, David Sackville.
