David L. Schwartzkopf

David L. Schwartzkopf, 75 of Aledo, died Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at Mercer Manor, Aledo. Public viewing will be held on Saturday, January 27^th from 9 am to 12 pm at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. The family will not be present. Private family services will be held with burial at St. John’s Cemetery, Viola, Illinois. Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. 

David was born on January 16, 1949, in Monmouth, Illinois to Russell & Phyllis (Feik) Schwartzkopf. He married Marilyn Mehall on July 30, 1966, in Kahoka, Missouri. 

Dave retired from the Aledo School District, where he was the custodian of Apollo Elementary School for many years. He also drove semi and worked for Gale Products in Galesburg, Illinois. He was a previous member of the Masonic Lodge and the Viola United Presbyterian Church. Dave enjoyed fishing and vacationing in the Ozarks. He treasured the time spent with his children and grandchildren. 

Dave’s memory will be cherished by his wife, Marilyn; children: Jerry Schwartzkopf and Jonathan & Lisa Schwartzkopf, all of Aledo; son-in-law: Delbert Ferguson of Milan; 7 grandchildren: David, Kaylen & Elijah Ferguson; Amelia, Hailey & M.J. Schwartzkopf and Kelly Schwartzkopf; 2 great-grandchildren: Madison & Ezra; sister-in-law, Margie & Bob Docherty and family. Dave was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Corena Ferguson (October 26, 2023); in-laws, Mike & Liz Mehall and brothers-in-law, Mike, Jim & George Mehall.
