Charlene Snell

Funeral Services for Charlene Snell, 91 of Aledo, formerly of Joy will be Thursday at 11:00 AM at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. Burial will be in Aledo Cemetery. Visitation is Wednesday from 3 to 7 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Mercer County Nursing Home or First Christian Church. Charlene died on Saturday, January 13, 2007 at the Mercer County Nursing Home. Charlene was born on September 26, 1915 in Little Rock, Arkansas to Harley & Katherine (Parvin) Evans. She married John Snell on April 8, 1939 in Rock Island. He preceded her in death on July 6, 1986. Charlene was a devoted mother and grandmother who enjoyed reading, sewing, flower gardening and canning. She loved to paint, and received many ribbons at the Mercer County Fair. She was a member of Home Extension, Christian Women’s Fellowship and the First Christian Church, Keithsburg, where she volunteered many hours. Charlene is survived by her daughters: Mary Maynard of Viola and Sandy McEwen and her husband, Mike of Aledo; a sister: Shirley Mobley and husband, Cecil of Seymour, MO; Grandchildren: Pam Spangler, Darin Maynard, Kaleb McEwen and Jacob McEwen and 2 great-grandchildren: Jarod Spangler and Andy Maynard. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a daughter, Betty Huston; a son-in-law, Dallas Maynard; a sister, Virginia Mahnesmith and brothers, Robert & James Evans.
