Funeral Services for Ethel Crawford, 99 of Joy, are Friday at 11:00 AM at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo, with visitation one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Peniel Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Joy United Methodist Church. Ethel May was born on May 15, 1910 on the Rickey family farm near Pomeroy in New Boston Township to Eldon & Julia (Streets) Rickey. She married Ernest Crawford on February 4, 1931 in Joy, Illinois. Ethel was a member of the United Methodist Church in Joy and was a charter member of the Happy Hour Neighborhood Club. She loved taking care of her “many” African violets; playing the piano; crocheting, crewel embroidery and collecting dolls. Those left to cherish Ethel’s memory include her 2 sons and their wives: Bill & Shirley and Bob & Nina, all of Joy; 4 grandchildren and their spouses: Chanin & Eric Schallert of Dixon, IA; William Crawford, Jr. of New Boston; Jason & Marcela Crawford of Joy and Julie & Merle Perrin of Joy and 3 great-grandchildren: Matthew, Nathan & Emily Schallert. She was preceded in death by her parents,husband and a sister, Roberta.
