Mitchel Kinkaid, 78 of Aledo, died Thursday January 21, 2010 at Aledo Rehab & Healthcare Center. Memorial Services will be Tuesday at 11:00 AM at Speer Funeral Home. Services will be led by Wilbur Frieden, concluding with Military Honors conducted by the VFW Post #1571. Honorary Bearers are Jim Dellitt, Dave Higgins, Bill Frieden, Brice Shrock, Breck Bigham and Richard Bigham. Visitation is Monday from 4 to 7 PM at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the VFW Post #1571, Mercer County YMCA or the Aledo Fire Department. Mitch was born on July 14, 1931 in Monmouth, Illinois to Archie & Mae (Graztmiller) Kinkaid. He was a 1950 graduate of Aledo High School. Mitch married Dorothy Benson on December 26, 1953 in Aledo. She preceded him in death on July 19, 1961. He was also previously married to Beverly Ramsdell. Mitch was a veteran of the Korean War. After serving his country, he became a lifetime member of the Mercer County VFW Post #1571. He was also a member of the Mercer County Farm Bureau and faithfully attended the Mercer County YMCA. He enjoyed watching golf and hunting big game. He brought back many trophies from his hunting trips to Africa, Canada, Alaska (Kodiac Island) and Wyoming. Mitch is survived by a son: David Kinkaid & his wife, Mary of Davenport; daughter, Nancy Schrock & her husband, Jack of Joy; 3 step-children: Cindy Bosaw of Alton; Patty Ramsdell of Florida and Ted Ramsdell of California; 2 grandchildren: Amber Dillbeck of Galesburg and Brice & Tara Schrock of New Boston; 4 step-grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren: Ayden Almaguer and Gracie Fisher. Mitch was preceded in death by his parents and first wife, Dorothy.
