Eula Jean Smith, 82 of Viola, died Sunday, May 7, 2006 at her home. Funeral Services are Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. Burial will be in Aledo Cemetery, with her grandsons as pallbearers. Visitation is Friday from 4 to 8 pm. Memorials may be made to the Viola United Methodist Church or Serenity Hospice.
Eula Jean was born on April 15, 1924 in Galesburg, IL to Charles I. & Verma B. (Baxter) Robbins. She married Edwin Smith on November 5, 1944 in Viola, IL.
Eula Jean was a graduate of Viola High School and had attended Western Illinois University. She was a Nurses Aide with the Mercer County Nursing Home for over 25 years, before retiring.
Eula Jean was a member of the Viola United Methodist Church, and the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed tending her flowers, feeding the birds and attending her grandchildren’s various activities.
Those left to honor Eula Jean’s memory include her husband, Edwin; children and spouses: LaVerne & Kathy Smith of Surprise, AZ; Duane & Karen Smith of Robins, IA; Lelan and Paula Smith of Aledo and Elsa Marie & Richard Anderson of Andover, MN; 2 sisters: Nitabelle Whitehall of Joy and Doris Hoing of Viola; 10 grandchildren: Angie Rafferty, Dack Anderson, Scott, Micki, Brian, Kimberly, Nickolas, Lucas, Monte and Kolby Smith and 6 great-grandchildren: Andrew, Alexa, Annelia, Hannah, Abby and Trenton. Eula Jean was preceded in death by her parents; a grandchild, Cassandra Smith and brothers, Harold “Jess” and Loren Robbins.
