Funeral services celebrating the life of Donald S. Hunt, 79 of Aledo, will be Thursday at 12:00 PM at College Avenue Presbyterian Church, Aledo. Visitation is Thursday from 10 AM to 12 PM at the church. Burial will be in Aledo Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Oak Ridge Cemetery, Millersburg or College Avenue Presbyterian Church. Speer Funeral Home, is assisting the family. Don died on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at Genesis Senior Living, Aledo. Donald Scott Hunt was born on March 11, 1937 in Aledo, Illinois to Herald T. & Cora (Weilbaker) Hunt. He graduated from Aledo High School in 1955, the first class to graduate from the new Aledo High School, and from Lincoln Barber College in 1959. Don and Sally Schreiber were married on May 3, 1959 at the Aledo United Methodist Church. Don was a barber for 52 years at various Aledo locations starting in 1959, semi-retiring in 1999, lastly working out of his home until January of 2011. Don served with the US Army Reserves for 6 years; was a former member of the Aledo Jaycees, Aledo Exchange Club, Aledo Chamber of Commerce, Aledo Main Street and the Oak Ridge Cemetery Board. He was currently a member of the Mercer County Historical Society where he enjoyed making rope and participating in history events during the 5th grade spring tours. Don was a former member of the United Presbyterian Church, Aledo and a current member of the College Avenue Presbyterian Church, having served as Elder, Deacon and also as an adult Sunday School Class Leader. Vegetable gardening was one of Don’s favorite hobbies, along with an extensive collection of Louis L’Amour books. He and his family enjoyed many years of boating and water skiing on the Mississippi River and on Lake of the Ozarks vacations. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal Baseball fan and in his younger years played 4-H and Church League softball. Those left to cherish Don’s memory include his wife, Sally; daughter, Angela Dunaway of Arlington, TX; son, Kevin (Barb) Hunt of Gurnee, IL; Grandchildren: Antronn Dunaway and Ryan and Hannah Hunt; Brother, Frazier Hunt of Aledo; Sister, Sue Ellen (Dan) Salomone of North St. Paul, MN; sisters-in-aw: Ella Mae (Jerry) Baker, of Aledo and Betty (Joel) Feigenbaum of Bainbridge Island, WA; three nephews and two nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father, David Bryans and a sister-in-law.
