M. Richard Reinhardt

Melvin Richard “Dick” Reinhardt passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at Genesis Medical Center, Silvis. Per his request, his remains were placed in the care of the Carver Medical School at the University of Iowa Hospitals. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 3rd at 3PM at College Avenue Presbyterian Church, Aledo. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Speer Funeral Home, Aledo is assisting the family. Memorials may be made to the Mercer Carnegie Library. Dick was born on June 24, 1928 in Macomb, Illinois to John Marshall & Mary (Provine) Reinhardt. He was a 1946 graduate of Western High School, which was at Western Illinois University. Dick served as a Military Policeman in the United States Army at Camp Gordan, GA from 1951 – 1952. He was united in marriage to Margaret Bell on December 6, 1953 at College Avenue Presbyterian Church, Aledo. He farmed and lived on the same farm near Aledo for 63 years. Dick was a member of College Avenue Presbyterian Church, where he had served as elder, deacon and trustee. He served for 20 years on the Mer-Roc FS board and was a member of the Mercer County Farm Bureau and the American Legion. He also had donated blood for over 40 years. Dick was proud of his Kentucky ancestors. Daniel Boone’s youngest sister, Hannah Boone Stewart Pennington, was his great-great-great-great-grandmother. One of her sons, John Stewart Pennington, came to Pennington Point in McDonough County in 1836. On a state historical sign in the church yard of Paint Lick Presbyterian Church, his great-great-great-great-grandfather, John Provine is listed as a Revolutionary War Soldier and a charter member of the church. His grave is the oldest marked grave in the cemetery, February 2, 1792. He died at the age of 41, after being kicked in the head by a horse. Dick is survived by his wife, Margaret; son: Ken (Kathy) Reinhardt of Seaton; daughter, Kathleen “Katie” (Tal) Ogg of Valparaiso, IN; son-in-law: David Pemble of Geneseo; Grandchildren: Greg (Kaitlyn) Pemble of California; Joel Pemble of Geneseo; Sean Pemble of Texas; Daniel ( Beth) Reinhardt of Hamilton, IL and Joanna (Ted) Anderson of Macomb, IL; Great-Grandchildren: Ethan and Isabella Reinhardt and Grant and Jake Anderson. Dick was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Karyl Pemble; and twin brothers in infancy.
