Susan Kay Leathers

Susan Kay Leathers, 66 of Keithsburg, died Thursday, November 19, 2015 at Genesis Medical Center, Aledo. Funeral Services will be Sunday at 1:00 PM at the First Christian Church, Keithsburg. Burial will be in Peniel Cemetery, Joy. Visitation is Saturday from 4 to 6 PM at the First Christian Church. Memorials may be made to the Keithsburg Playground Fund or Mercer Foundation for Health. Speer Funeral Home, Aledo is assisting the family. Susan was born on November 13, 1949 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Laurence & Helen Marie (Kannenburg) Hoyle. She was united in marriage to Larry Leathers. Susan was with Maytag in Galesburg for over 15 years. She enjoyed her trips to Florida, Bingo and watching Racing. Susan could often be seen taking her daily drives around Keithsburg. Those left to cherish Susan’s memory include her husband, Larry; daughters and sons-in-law: Rhonda & Todd Christie of Joy; Lisa & Tim Wessels of Keithsburg; Step-children: Laurie Smith of Silvis and Dale Leathers of Moline; 5 grandchildren: Andrew & Ashley Christie and Nicole, Patrick & Ryan Wessels; step-grandchildren: Casey Agan; Robert Brown; Dwayne Smith, Jr.; Michael, Kayla and Lindsey Leathers and several great-grandchildren; and Sisters, Bobbie Betcher of Colona, IL and Beverly Miller of Lexington, North Carolina. She was preceded in death by her parents. The family would like to especially thank Susan's caretakers: Deb Wakeland, Brenda Howard, Marjie Earl, Bud Monson, Genesis Hospice and Genesis Medical Center.
