William "Bill" A. Williams

William A. “Bill” Williams, 89, of Viola, died Friday, September 11, 2015 at Genesis Senior Living, Aledo. Funeral services are Tuesday at 11:00 AM at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo, with visitation one hour prior to services. Burial with Military Honors will be in Viola Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Viola United Methodist Church or the American Legion Post #229. Bill was born on February 7, 1926 in Aledo, Illinois to Wiley & Sadie (Anderson) Williams. He was a World War II veteran of the United States Navy. Bill retired from the John Deere Foundry after 30 years of employment. Bill was a member of the Viola United Methodist Church; the American Legion Post #229, Viola; and of the former Viola Lions Club. He enjoyed woodcarving and was formerly the Secretary Treasurer of the Viola Home Telephone Company. Bill was an grateful recipient of the Honor Flight of the Quad Cities. Bill is survived by his nephews and their wives: Jim & Sandy Dunbar; John Thompson; Bill & Janet Swanson and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Waunita Thompson and Dolores “Dee” Swanson.
