Margaret E. Graff, 100 of Aledo, died Monday, February 20, 2006 at the Mercer County Nursing Home, Aledo. Per her wishes, cremation rites were accorded. Private family services will be held at a later date, with burial in Aledo Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Mercer County Nursing Home. Speer Funeral Home, Aledo, is in charge of arrangements.
Margaret Ellen was born to John W. & Henrietta (Killam) Marshall on September 2, 1905 in Markham, IL, near Jacksonville, IL. She was educated in Jacksonville schools and graduated from Illinois College in Jacksonville, IL in 1927 with honors.
Margaret and Martin H. Graff were united in marriage on September 4, 1927 in Jacksonville, IL and moved to New Boston, IL the same day. He preceded her in death on November 14, 1987.
Margaret taught third and fourth grades in New Boston Grade School and later taught Latin at Joy High School. She was a member of the National Retired Teachers Association. She was also a charter member of the former “Wimodausis Club” (Wives – mothers-daughters-sisters Club) in New Boston during the 1930’s.
Margaret is survived by 2 daughters and a son-in-law: Shirley & Leonard McCaw of Moline and Maryan Bell of New Windsor; a son and daughter-in-law: Richard E. & Phyllis Graff of Peru, IL; 6 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; 3 sisters; 1 brother; a grandson, Gregory Irwin and a son-in-law, LaVerne Bell.
