Funeral services for Vera Lafever, 95 of Aledo are Thursday at 11:00 AM at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. Burial will be in Sugar Grove Cemetery, rural Aledo. Visitation is Wednesday from 4 to 7 PM at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Mercer County Senior Citizens Center or Sugar Grove Cemetery. Vera died on Sunday, March 8, 2015 at her home. Vera Elaine was born on January 14, 1920 in Preemption, Township, Mercer County, Illinois to Stuart & Bertha (Waschke) Doonan. She married Loyd Lafever on August 28, 1943 in St. Louis, Missouri. He preceded her in death on June 2, 2000. Vera was employed with the Moline Walgreens Drug Store lunch room at the time of her marriage. She later worked for the Mercer County ASCS office and for 34 years with the Westmer School District, retiring in 1994. Vera enjoyed playing cards and was a member for over 50 years of the Canasta Card Club. She was also a member of the Hamlet Perryton Presbyterian Church and a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star of Buffalo Prairie , where she held many offices including Past Matron. Vera had an amazing memory for dates and special events. She cherished time spent with family and friends, especially when she could take them out to eat. Those left to cherish Vera’s memory include her daughter, Randi (Ethel) Christianson of Pekin; Grandchildren and spouses: Scott & Beverly Belzer; Kevin & Melissa Belzer; James & Alicia Ward and Travis & Amy Christianson; step-granddaughter: Cheryl Smith; 9 great-grandchildren: Zachary, Alexander & Jackson Belzer; Hanna, Grace & David Christianson; Rebekah, Megan & Audrey Ward;6 step-great-grandchildren;Brandi Collilngwood, Dustin & Dana Wiebold and Maidson and Michael Paulus and Christopher Smith. 2 step-great-great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Rod Ward of Morton, IL and many nieces, nephews and friends. Vera is also survived by many special little friends: Heather & Alysah Srch, the Holdsworth family and the Kenny & Karen King children and grandchildren. Vera was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter Helen in infancy; daughter, Janet Ward; brother, Lyle and sister, Irma.
