Virginia Cooper, 87 of Aledo, died Friday, January 30, 2015 at Genesis Senior Living, Aledo. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1:00 PM at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. Burial will be in Aledo Cemetery. Visitation is Monday from 5 to 7 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Aledo United Methodist Church, where she was a member.
Virginia was born January 16, 1928 near Taylor Ridge, Illinois to Edward V. & Mary (Haas) Hofer. She was a 1945 graduate of Reynolds High School and 1949 graduate of the University of Iowa. Virginia and Eugene H. Cooper were married on September 16, 1951 in Reynolds, Illinois.
In early years, Virginia taught at the Joy High School and for the Winola Unit. After her marriage, she worked with Gene at his TV & Appliance Business. She was a member of the Laureate X1 Chapter of Beta Signia Phi Sorority, having served as President and various other offices. Virginia served as president of the United Methodist Women; was a member of AARP; American Legion Auxiliary; Mercer County Historical Society; Mercer County Hospital Auxiliary and Aledo Area Chamber of Commerce. She enjoyed her friendships from the card club that she and Gene belonged to for over 50 years. Virginia also enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren.
Those left to cherish Virginia’s memory include her husband, Gene; daughter and son-in-law: Kristie & Ron Murdock of Monmouth; Grandchildren: Lindsay, Jake & Mollie Murdock; great-grandson, Easton and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Randy and a brother, James Hofer.
