Hans Sunken, 76 of Aledo, died peacefully on Thursday, September 18, 2014, surrounded by his family. Visitation and time of fellowship for Hans will be held on Saturday at Speer Funeral Home from 10 AM to 12 Noon. Private family burial will be at a later date in Aledo Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Brain Injury Alliance or the Heartland Havoc Softball Team.
Hans was born on March 28, 1938 in Iowa City, IA. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. Hans married Ellen Wynne on August 6, 1966 in Polo, Illinois.
Hans was a heavy equipment Operator for over 35 years, and was proud of his affiliation with the Operating Engineers #150. In his spare time he enjoyed working on his farm, fishing and telling many fish stories. Hans had a gift for telling stories and had a signature laugh. He also loved watching his granddaughters play softball.
Hans is survived by his wife, Ellen; Children and spouses: Brad & Colette Sunken of Aledo and Keri & Darrin Rursch of Reynolds; 2 granddaughters: Ella & Amelia Rursch; brothers: Oscar Sunken of Salem, OR; Maynard Sunken of Ventura, CA and a sister, Mae Kruse of Williamsburg, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, John & Helena (Wilke) Sunken.
