Funeral Services for Helen Marie Vickrey, 97 of Aledo, will be Friday at 11:00 AM at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of services. Private family burial will be in Aledo Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the College Avenue Presbyterian Church, Trinity Presbyterian Church or the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Helen passed away on Sunday, September 07, 2014 at Aledo Rehab & Healthcare Center. Helen Marie was born on December 15, 1916 in Ohio Grove Township, Mercer County, Illinois to Paul & Minnie (Johnson) Rummel. After graduation from Aledo High School in 1934, Helen worked for Dr. Guy in Aledo for several years and then moved to Rochester, Michigan. There she met and married Don R. Vickrey on June 22, 1946. The couple eventually settled back in Aledo. Helen was a secretary for her husband’s feed business, for the Mercer County Soil and Water Conservation District and Viola Telephone Co. Helen was active in the College Avenue Presbyterian Church, VFW Ladies Auxiliary; Mercer Co. Hospital Auxiliary and volunteer for the American Heart Association. Helen's survivors include her two sons and daughter’s-in-law: Edward Paul & Julie Vickrey and Robert Charles & Donna Vickrey all of Aledo; a brother, William “John” Rummel of Potassi, MO; and Grandchildren: Amie of California; Alisa of Pittsburgh, PA; Ariel Magdefrau of Colona, IL; Donald of Cincinnati, OH. She has several dear nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Don on January 27, 1986; brother, Charles Rummel and sister, Irene Gowdy.
