Funeral services for Wendell Dillavou, 94 of Aledo, will be Wednesday at 10:30 AM at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. Burial with Military Honors will be in Candor Cemetery, rural Seaton, IL. Visitation is Tuesday from 4 to 8 PM with Masonic Services at 8 PM. Memorials may be made to Center Presbyterian Church or Mercer County Historical Society. Wendell died Friday, August 15, 2014 at Genesis Senior Living, Aledo. Wendell was born on April 29, 1920 in Lee County, Iowa to Edgar C. & Viola (Murray) Dillavou. He was united in marriage to Fern Jones on May 3, 1941 near Wilton, Iowa. Wendell was a veteran of the United States Army, having served from 1943 – 1946 as a Staff Sergeant in the Phillipines during WW II. He farmed in the Aledo and Seaton area for 60 years and also enjoyed carpentry. Wendell was a member of the Mercer County VFW Post #1571 (lifetime member); American Legion Falleren Post #121, where he was the oldest WWII member; Mercer County Historical Society, where he served on the board; Center Presbyterian Church, where he served as Elder; Aledo Masonic Lodge; Royal Arch at Monmouth; Illinois Council at Knoxville; Commandry at Galesburg and a member of the KYCH. Wendell also enjoyed spending time collecting and restoring antiques. Those left to cherish Wendell’s memory include his wife of 73 Years, Fern; 4 sons and their spouses: Bill & Kay Dillavou of Cochise, AZ; Robert Dillavou of Forreston, IL; Ronn & Pam Dillavou of Aledo and Rev. Don & Marlene Dillavou of Hamilton, OH; 8 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are 2 nieces, Kay Dillavou Lyon and Delores Ruschill. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers: Raymond & Merle Dillavou.
