Daniel Springer, 72 of Seaton, died Sunday, March 16, 2014 at his home, with his family at his side. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 6:30 PM at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. Visitation is prior to services from 4 to 6:30 PM at the funeral home. Private burial will be at a later date in Candor Cemetery, rural Seaton. Memorials may be made to SPARKS (Seaton Parks And Recreation for Kids Safety.)
Dan was born on December 5, 1941 in Sparta, Wisconsin to Edmond & Bernice (Soper) Springer. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. He took his love of the water and turned it into a career as a Merchant Sailor. He captained many tugboats on the Atlantic, Pacific and Gulf of Mexico waters. Closer to his retirement he captained on the Mississippi River.
Dan and Sandra Jacobsen were united in marriage on August 11, 1962 in Georgia. She preceded him in death on January 21, 2011. In his retirement he enjoyed woodworking and going to the casinos. He also enjoyed going for his daily drives, visiting over coffee with friends and his special canine companion, Mimi.
Dan is survived by his children and spouses: Bob & Beth Springer, Peggy & Randy Kaufman and Scott Springer all of Seaton; 3 grandchildren, Nichole, Jessica and Jacob; 2 great-grandchildren, Wyatt & Trinity; Brothers: Calvin Springer & wife, Alice; Lowell “Olie” Springer; Sisters: Carol and Emilie Springer; brother-in-law: Harry Schoolcraft; sister-in-law, Pat Springer and special friend, Barb Robinson of Aledo. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; great-granddaughter, Reese Springer; sister, Lavon Schoolcraft; brothers: Larry, Lloyd and Richard Springer; a sister-in-law, Leona Springer and a niece/god-daughter, Terri Springer.
