Mildred L. Kochendorfer

Mildred L. Kochendorfer, 100 of Rock Island, died Sunday, June 29, 2008 at Friendship Manor, Rock Island. Graveside services will be Tuesday at 2:00 PM at Peniel Cemetery, Joy, Illinois. Pastor Richard Bishop will officiate. Memorials may be made to Friendship Manor, Rock Island or the First United Methodist Church of Oak Park, 324 N. Oak Park Ave., Oak Park, IL 60302. Speer Funeral Home, Aledo is assisting the family. Mildred was born on August 31, 1907 in Joy, Illinois to Frank and Mabel (Kiddoo) Sherer. She married Edward C. Kochendorfer on February 9, 1935 in Joy, Illinois. He preceded her in death in 1974. Mildred received her Bachelors and Master’s Degrees in Education from the National College of Education in Evanston, Illinois. She retired from the Oak Park Public School System in 1973 after teaching Elementary School for 22 years. Mildred was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Oak Park, prior to retiring to Friendship Manor in Rock Island. Mildred is survived by several family members, including cousins, Darvin and Kathryn Schroeder of Bettendorf and close friend, Jan Booker of Milan. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Ruth Fortner and Darlene Ketzle.
