Paul Gilliland

Funeral Services for Paul Gilliland, 62 of Aledo will be Monday at 11:00 AM at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. Burial will be in Aledo Cemetery. Visitation is Sunday from 1:30 – 3:30 at the funeral home, with Masonic Rites at 3:30 PM. Memorials may be made to the Paul Gilliland Memorial Fund. Paul died on Thursday, January 30, 2014 at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island. Bernard Paul was born on September 2, 1951 in Aledo, Illinois to Bernard Stewart & Ola Eileen (Rutledge) Gilliland. He was a graduate of Iowa Wesleyan University and then attended Seminary where he became an Ordained Methodist Minister. He served the Taylor Ridge United Methodist Church where he enjoyed sharing his gift of music by playing the guitar. Paul retired from the Illinois Department of Transportation, and was currently working at Auto Zone in Aledo. He had previously worked at KI Willis in Rock Island. Paul was a member of the Aledo Masonic Lodge #252 A.F. & A.M. Paul was an avid antique collector. He especially enjoyed his Antique Chevy Trucks, Cars and Bicycles. He was a member of the Jus’ n Ol’ Truck Club. Paul loved working on Bicycles and had his own bike shop for many years. Paul and Carol enjoyed attending antique shows and square dancing. They belonged to the Wheel n’ Steppers Square Dancers. Paul is survived by a special friend, Carol Guthrie of Aledo; Sister & brother-in-law: Eileen & Dave Sipes of Aledo; a brother, Brian Gilliland of Englewood, FL and 7 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James Gilliland.
