Funeral Services for Ralph “Jonesy” Jones, 90 of Aledo, will be Friday at 10:00 AM at Speer Funeral Home. Military Honors will be conducted by the Mercer County VFW Post #1571. Visitation is Thursday from 4 to 7 PM at the funeral home, with Masonic Services at 7:30 PM. Burial will be in Aledo Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Messiah Lutheran Church or the Mercer County VFW Post #1571. Ralph died on Sunday, January 26, 2014, at the Genesis Medical Center, Aledo. Ralph was born on January 2, 1924 in Duncan Township, Mercer County, Illinois to William & Marjorie (Peterson) Jones. He married Mable Johnson, June 16, 1946. She preceded him in death in 1999. Ralph farmed in Duncan Township, where he served as Township Clerk prior to serving as Supervisor for 12 years. After retiring from farming he drove school bus for Johannes Bus Service for 10 years and was also an Auctioneer. Ralph served his country in the US Navy during WW II. He was a Coxswain on the USS Honolulu. He was an active Mason, with Memberships in the Buffalo Prairie Masonic Lodge #679, Order of the Eastern Star and the Moline Consistory. Ralph also was a member of the Mercer County VFW Post #1571; served on the Mercer County Farm Bureau Board and Fair Board, where he was Superintendent of the Sheep Barn. Ralph is survived by his daughters: Terry Wiersum (Joe Minton) of Bakersfield, CA and Marsha (Paul) Lee of Duluth, MN; special friend, Eileen Carlson of Columbus Junction, IA and sisters in law: Lorena and Donna Johnson and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sister, Pauline Mackin and infant son, Daniel.
