Leona Springer

Funeral services for Leona Springer, 70 of Seaton, will be Saturday at 4:00 PM at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. Visitation is from 2 to 4 PM on Saturday, prior to services. Private family burial will be at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Leona Springer Memorial Fund. Leona died on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at the Genesis Medical Center, Aledo. Leona was born on May 2, 1943 in Keithsburg, Illinois to Ralph & Hazel (Ortery) Sheckles. She married Richard A. Springer, Sr. on April 14, 1962. He preceded her in death on June 10, 2012. Leona retired from Aledo Health & Rehab as their Dietary Manager. She also had previously owned The Springer Café and The Red Shed in Seaton and managed the Satisfied Frog in Keithsburg. She enjoying camping down south with Richard, bowling and going to the Casino. Leona also enjoyed crocheting afghans and playing Bingo. She was also affectionately known as “Ona”. Those left to cherish Leona’s memory include her 5 children and spouses: Richard A. Springer, Jr. of Farmington; Randy & Beth Springer of Omaha, NE; Lisa Bleuer of Seaton; Robert & Flora Springer of Anchorage, AK and Laura & Andy Jones of Durant, IA; 12 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 3 siblings and spouses: Arley & Lynn Sheckles of DeWitt, IA; Connie & Marlo Watts of Arkansas and Alice & Paul Schlup of Jefferson City, MO. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband and siblings: Ralph Sheckles and Karen Hansen.
