Clyde W. McMeekan, 91 of Matherville, died Wednesday, November 06, 2013 at Trinity Rock Island. Funeral services will be Sunday at 7:00 PM at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo with Visitation prior to services from 4 to 7 PM. Inurnment will be in Farlow Grove Cemetery, Matherville, at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Clyde McMeekan Memorial Fund.
Clyde was born on September 10, 1922 in Cable, Illinois to William & Etta (Kasenburg) McMeekan. He married Mildred “Millie” (Ziemer) Young on January 22, 1953. She preceded him in death on August 1, 1992.
Clyde was employed with the Midwest Operating Engineers Local #150 for 25 years. He also worked on many family farms in earlier years. In his spare time he enjoyed gardening; tending his flowers; hunting, fishing and trapping. He loved to tinker, especially on small engines. He cherished the time spent with family and friends. Clyde was a Country Music Fan, especially Charlie Pride. He enjoyed his time on the CB radio, and his infamous handle was “The Old Catskinner”.
Clyde is survived by a step-son, Larry Young of Indianapolis; several step-great and great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law, Joyce McMeekan of Viola. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; 5 sisters; 5 brothers; and 2 step-children: James Young and Dixie Middleton.
