Dorothy Dixon, 78 of Joy, went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 18, 2013 at Genesis Senior Living, Aledo, with her family at her side. Graveside services are Monday at 11:00 AM at Peniel Cemetery, Joy, with the Rev. John Mattingly officiating. Memorials may be made to the Dorothy Dixon Memorial Fund. Speer Funeral Home, Aledo is assisting the family.
Dorothy was born on February 11, 1935 in Oakville, Iowa to Joseph & Thelma (Wickey) Munson, Sr. She was employed with Hideaway Plastics, for 10 years and was a custodian for the Westmer High School District for 10 years and operated Dixon’s Diner in Joy.
Dorothy was a devoted mother and grandmother who enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and watching gameshows. She was a member of the Joy Baptist Church.
Those left to cherish Dorothy’s memory include her children and spouses: Toni & Dale Mitchell of Joy and Rusty & Diana Dixon of Moline; 6 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren and 1 step-great-grandchild; 4 siblings and spouses: Joe & Norma Munson, Jr. of Coyne Center; Zona Davison of Marian, IA; Sampson “Bud” & Sandra Munson of Keithsburg; Patsy & Lonnie Peterson of Joy; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Munson of Keithsburg and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Charles Munson; sisters, Thelma Burton and Judy Hunt and in-laws, George Davison and Marion Munson.
