Funeral services for Rex L. Dahl, 84 of Aledo, will be Monday at 10:00 AM at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. Burial is in Sugar Grove Cemetery, rural Aledo. Visitation is Sunday from 4 to 7 PM at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Community Projects of Aledo, George Pratt Memorial Field Renovations. Rex died on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, Iowa City. Rex was born on December 27, 1928 in Aledo to Leonard & Alta L. Butcher (Dahl). He was a Veteran of the United States Navy. Rex married Helen Frerkes on February 11, 1956 in Davenport, Iowa. Rex was first and foremost a dedicated family man who enjoyed watching his children’s and grandchildren’s activities. He was an avid sports fan and was a founding member of the Aledo Park District Board. He also enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing cards and was a member of the Aledo Exchange Club. In earlier years he and Helen enjoyed traveling and camping. Those who will cherish Rex’s memory include his wife, Helen; children and spouses: Susie & Jim Bigham of Aledo; Vicki & Don Gladfelter of Monmouth and Jeff & Debbie Dahl of Edmond, OK; a sister-in-law, Norma Dahl of Aledo; 12 grandchildren and spouses: Christie & Jesse Harrison, Jamie & Matt Breeden, Brent & Angie Bigham, Bridget & Josh Wilkerson, Allison Gladfelter & Vince Kispersky, Adam Gladfelter, Kelsey Dahl, Jordan & Megan Dahl and Jacobi Dahl; 12 great-grandchildren and one lovingly expected. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Charles & Paul Eugene Dahl.
