Ruth Kiddoo

Ruth Kiddoo, 99 of Joy, died Thursday, August 1, 2013 at Genesis Senior Living, Aledo. Services will be Monday at 11:00 AM at the Joy United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Peniel Cemetery. Visitation is Sunday from 2 to 5 PM at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. Memorials may be made to the Joy United Methodist Church or Cunningham Children’s Home. Ruth was born on November 28, 1913 in Keithsburg, IL to John & Fern (Thomason) Retherford. She was valedictorian for both her 8th grade county graduation in 1927 and her graduation from Joy High School in 1931. Ruth and L. Dalton Kiddoo were married in Aledo on March 4, 1933. He preceded her in death on April 6, 1981. Ruth was a dedicated homemaker. She loved sharing her cooking with her family and friends, and they especially enjoyed her noodles and dinner rolls, among many other specialties. After retirement, Ruth and Dalton moved to Joy, where she worked for the Joy Post Office for 5 Years. She also enjoyed her winters in Mission, Texas and was a fan of the Chicago Cubs. Ruth was a devout member of the United Methodist Church, where she was past president of the Joy United Methodist Women and the Galesburg District of United Methodist Women. She was on the board of the Cunningham Children’s Home in Urbana for 10 years. Those left to cherish Ruth’s memory include her 2 sons and daughter’s-in-law: Roger & Carol Kiddoo of Joy and Ron & Susan Kiddoo of Urbana; 5 grandchildren and spouses: Craig & Diane Kiddoo and Anne & John Storsved both of Urbana; David Kiddoo of Oakland, CA; Kay & Keith Volz of Norway, IA and Doug & Barb Kiddoo of Joy; 15 Great-grandchildren; 7 Great-great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a brother, Russell Retherford.
