Funeral Services for Gary Mayhew, 74 of Aledo, will be Saturday, at 11:00 AM at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. Buffalo Prairie Masonic Lodge will officiate the services. Burial will be in Aledo Cemetery. Visitation is Friday from 4 to 7 PM at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to: Mercer County 4-H Federation; Community Projects of Aledo, Football/Track Project; Buffalo Prairie Masonic Lodge or the American Red Cross. Gary died on Sunday, May 19, 2013 at Trinity Rock Island. Gary was born on April 25, 1939 in Davenport, Iowa to John A. & Darlene (Kimball) Mayhew. He married Sharon Treadwell on May 28, 1960 in Bennett, Iowa. Gary was still working as an Independent Animal Health Supplier and also worked for Vigortone for many years. Earlier in life, Gary enjoyed farming and raising hogs just north of Aledo. In recent years he was employed by Martin Grain Company, Edgington and did seasonal work for Crop Production Services, Viola. Gary enjoyed his sports, especially the Fighting Illini and the Chicago Bears. An Illini football season ticket holder, Gary loved tailgating in Champaign with his family, especially his grandchildren. Gary was a staunch supporter of the Mercer County 4-H program. He enjoyed a daily cup of coffee with his friends at Doug’s Town and County, Aledo. Gary was a past Master and a 50-year member of the Buffalo Prairie Masonic Lodge and a member of the Moline Consistory. Those left to cherish Gary’s memory include his wife, Sharon; daughters: Lisa Mayhew and friend, Mark Branham of Bloomington and Stephanie Mudd and husband, Michael of Moline; grandson, Ian Mudd; granddaughter, Sidney Mudd; mother, Darlene of Aledo; sisters: Judy Peterson and husband, Pete of Arkansas and Nancy Rumler of Marseilles, IL; brothers and spouses: Darryl and Sally Mayhew of Troy, IL and Tom and Pam Mayhew of Hennepin, IL and an uncle; two aunts and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and a sister, Barb Mayhew.
