A Funeral Mass celebrating the life of Gerald Garrison, 73 of Aledo, will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 AM at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church, Aledo. Visitation is Monday from 5 to 8 at Speer Funeral Home, where memories will be shared at 7:30 PM. Private family burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Viola. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gerald Garrison Memorial Fund.
Gerry died on Friday, April 26, 2013 in Aledo.
Gerry was born on July 26, 1939 in Kewanee, Illinois to Frank & Florence (Sentney) Garrison. He married Mary Jane Burrill. She preceded him in death. Gerry married Valerie J. Guastadisegni on June 29, 2002 in Moline. He was a loving and devoted step-father to her sons, John, Michael & Matthew Sonneville.
Gerry was a 1957 Graduate of Galesburg High School and a veteran of the United States Army. He was employed for 24 years with Farmall and 24 years with BT Primemover and later, Raymond Corp. of Muscatine. In Gerry’s spare time he loved sports, especially the Dodgers; all Chicago Sports; Fighting Illini and his Aledo Green Dragons and Mercer Co. Golden Eagles. He was an assistant softball coach in Aledo for 17 years. Another favorite pastime was dancing. Dancing introduced him to his “Partner in Life”, Valerie. They had the time of their life dancing and listening to music together.
Those left to cherish Gerry’s memory include his wife, Valerie; daughter and family; Kathleen & Jeff Ferguson of Florida and Gerry’s grandson, Ryan; step-sons, John, Michael & Matthew; sisters and brothers-in-law: Karen and Frank Froehlich of Hinton, IA; Karole & John Aultman and Dale Burrill all of East Moline. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife; granddaughter, Kaitlyn Jane Boney and sisters, Elizabeth Garrison and Judy Burrill.
