Virginia R. Melton

Virginia R. Melton, 84 of Seaton, died Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at the Methodist Medical Center, Peoria. Funeral Services will be Saturday at 1:00 PM at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. Burial will be in Candor Cemetery, rural Seaton, Illinois. Visitation is Friday from 5 to 8 PM at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Seaton Fire Protection District. Virginia Ruth was born on November 21, 1928 to Virgil & Sadie (Craig) Boock in Henderson County, Illinois. She married Gerald C. Melton on December 9, 1946 in Little York, Illinois. Jerry preceded her in death on May 3, 2003. Virginia lived and worked side by side with her husband on the family farm in rural Seaton where she enjoyed taking care of her family, especially cooking for them. She cherished her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, they were the loves of her life. Virginia was a member of the Center Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday School. She was also a member of the Mercer County Farm Bureau Women’s Committee for many years; a volunteer with Reach to Recovery and on the Board of Directors for the American Cancer Society for over 30 years. Those left to cherish Virginia’s memory include her children and their spouses: Susan Moore of Sierra Vista, AZ; Gary & Kathy Sue Melton and Kathy & Ken Reinhardt all of Seaton; Brother & sisters-in-law: Dwight & Carol Boock of Seaton and Effie Boock of Little York; 8 grandchildren and spouses: Dwight & Jennifer Melton, Brenda & Chris Meehan, Darren & Rachel Melton, Jim & Colleen Link, Erin & Eric Hofer, Kevin Moore, Daniel & Beth Reinhardt and Joanna & Ted Anderson; 20 Great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jerry and brother, William Boock.
