Florence "Beverly" Nelson

Graveside services for Florence “Beverly” Nelson, 82 of Viola, are Friday at 3:30 PM at Viola Cemetery. Visitation is Friday, prior to services from 1 to 3 PM at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. Memorials may be made to the Calvary Lutheran Church, New Windsor. Beverly died on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at Genesis Senior Living, Aledo. Beverly was born on June 17, 1930 in Reynolds, Illinois to Gerald & Chlora (Plunkett) Spivey. She married Charles “Dean” Nelson on October 25, 1951 in Rock Island. He preceded her in death on April 17, 2012. Beverly was a cook for many years with both the Mercer County Hospital and Nursing Home. She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, New Windsor where she was very active, including teaching Sunday School. She was also a member of the Viola Eastern Star. Beverly also enjoyed cooking, gardening and taking care of her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Beverly is survived by her 3 children and their spouses: Deborah Inez Nelson of Virginia Beach, VA; Diane & Doyle Kellett and Steven Dean & Diane Nelson all of Aledo; 7 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Virgil “Bill” Spivey of Cambridge and sisters and brothers-in-law: Marilyn & Laverne Peterson of Rio and Dolly & Laverne Anderson of New Windsor. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband and 9 brothers and sisters: Rachel Vanhall, Margaret Peterson, Lorraine Dunlap, Trudy Dunlap, Virginia Fontenoy and Thomas, Jerry, Stewart and Richard Spivey.
