Funeral services for Donald C. Lloyd, 69, of Aledo will be held Friday, October 7th at 10:30 am at the Viola United Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in the Viola Cemetery. Visitation is Thursday, October 6th, from 3 to 8 pm at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo, with Masonic services at 8 pm. Memorials may be made to Serenity Hospice or the Donald Lloyd Memorial Fund.
Donald died on Monday, October 3, 2005 at his home.
Donald was born on July 30, 1936 at the family home in Perryton Township to Jasper & Ida (Forsyth) Lloyd. He attended a one room school in Marston and graduated in 1954 from Aledo High School. He married Roberta Morris on August 2, 1959 in Viola.
Donald was a dedicated livestock producer and lifetime purebred shorthorn breeder and owner of Morris & Lloyd Shorthorns. He was currently a member of the Mercer County Fair Board, where he served as Beef Superintendent. He also was a member of the Illinois Shorthorn Association; the Illinois Beef Association; the Buffalo Prairie Masonic Lodge #679 and the Viola Presbyterian Church where he had been both Elder and Trustee. Donald was also a former board member of the Farmers Grain Elevator Board; Mercer Rock Island County Livestock Feeders and Greene Township Board.
Donald was a devoted and proud father and grandfather and a great story teller. He enjoyed working with the youth and served as 4-H leader of the Kimel club for 15 years.
Donald is survived by his wife, Roberta; 3 daughters and sons-in-laws: Becky & Al Zwilling of Viola; Renee Lloyd of Centennial, CO and Rachel & Dudley Fowler of Aledo; 4 grandchildren: Jason and Clay Zwilling and Gwen & Meg Fowler; 2 brothers & sisters-in-law: Louis & Eleanor Lloyd of Aledo and Lowell & Dorothy Lloyd of Illinois City; 3 sisters and brothers-in-law: Suzanna Simpson of Little York; Barbara & Ted Granquist of Rochester, MN and Carolyn & Larry Makoben of Bettendorf; 3 sisters-in-law: Mary Lloyd, Marge Lloyd and Rayo Lloyd all of Reynolds and numerous nieces and nephews. Donald was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Evva; 4 brothers: Marvin, John, Harold & Clair; 2 sisters-in-law, Peggy Lloyd & Doris Morris and 2 brothers-in-law, Edmund Morris and Kenneth Simpson.
