Wendell M. Yerkey

Funeral Services for Wendell M. Yerkey, 86 of Aledo, will be Saturday at 10:30 AM at the Aledo United Methodist Church. The Rev. John Crede will officiate. Burial will be in the Sugar Grove Cemetery, Aledo. Visitation is Friday from 5 to 7 PM at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church or the Mercer County Nursing Home. Wendell died on Sunday, November 18, 1007 at the Mercer County Nursing Home. Wendell was born on March 11, 1921 in rural Viola to Lewis & Marie (Drake) Yerkey. He attended Viola High School. He married Evelyn (Line) Griffith on June 5, 1959 in Aledo. Wendell worked as a carpenter for many years and retired from the Mercer County Highway Department. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and bird-watching. He was a member of the Aledo United Methodist Church. Wendell is survived by his wife, Evelyn; son, Larry Griffith of Aledo; daughter, Carol (Judd) McAtee of Viola; grandchildren, Jim (Amanda) McAtee, Jon (Amy) McAtee, Angie (John) DeBlock, Josh (Stephanie) McAtee and 9 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Lyle Westerfield and Merlin, Jack and Howard Yerkey and nephews, Larry & Ron Yerkey.
