William W. "Bill" Gibson

William “Bill” Gibson, 73 of Aledo, died Monday, August 6, 2012 at Trinity Rock Island. Funeral Services for Bill Gibson will be Thursday at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church, Aledo. Visitation is Wednesday from 4 to 8 PM at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. The Patriot Guard Riders will be standing guard in Bill’s Honor. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bill Gibson Memorial Fund. Per Bill’s wishes, cremation will be accorded after services. Bill was born on December 31, 1938 in Williamsfield, Illinois to Ray & Nadine (Bent) Gibson. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, having served from 1956 to 1962. Bill married Patricia A. McIntyre Olson on July 23, 1960 in Iowa City, Iowa. Bill was a dedicated employee with Boney’s Farm Store for over 30 years. He attended the Aledo First Baptist Church. Bill devoted the last 6 years to riding with the Illinois Patriot Guard Riders. He truly enjoyed riding his motorcycle . Bill was also a licensed private pilot since 1971, and a member of the Mercer County Air Club. He enjoyed spending time on the river, especially fishing, caring for his garden and flowers and spending time with family and friends. Those left to cherish Bill’s memory include his wife of 52 years, Pat; a son and his wife: David & Terri Gibson of Keithburg; 2 daughters and their husbands: Brenda & Randy Frieden of Aledo and Danita & Matt Lafever of Joy; 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father and a son, Gary Olson.
