Russell Leroy Morehead

Russell L. Morehead, 79 of Aledo,Illinois, died Thursday, June 14, 2012 at the McClean County Nursing Home, Bloomington, Illinois. Funeral Services will be Tuesday at 11:00 AM at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. Burial will be in Illinois City Cemetery. Visitation is Monday from 5 to 8 PM at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Russell Morehead Memorial Fund. Russell Leroy was born on July 14, 1932 in Illinois City, Illinois to Everett & Janette (Verstringe) Morehead. He married Martha Winegard on January 22, 1956. She preceded him in death on August 23, 1983. Russell was a dedicated farmer, but also was a salesman for Thede’s in Aledo for many years. He retired after serving as a guard at the Henry Hill Correctional Center, Galesburg. In his retirement, he still kept busy by working for Mer-Roc and Gold Star FS. In earlier years he enjoyed attending auctions and collecting many items. Russell cherished his many friendships made at McDonalds in Aledo. Russell is survived by a son: Nathan Morehead of Monmouth; 2 daughters and their husbands: Melissa & Corbitt Pitcock and Danette & Greg Gilhaus all of Bloomington; 5 grandchildren: Rebecca Enderlin; Gavin Enderlin; Rachel Pitcock; Jacob Gilhaus and Nicholas Gilhaus. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife and a brother, Raymond Morehead.
