Doris Lavonne Kingry, 80, formerly of Seaton, died Wednesday, July 25 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Geneseo. A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 6 at 11 a.m. at Speer Funeral Home in Aledo which is handling arrangements. A private burial ceremony will be held at Candor Cemetery, Seaton. Memorials may be made to Seaton Center Presbyterian Church or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Doris was born July 25, 1927 in Hoopeston, the daughter of Charles and Etta (Innes) Williams. She married her high school sweetheart, E.L. Kingry of Fithian, December 24, 1947 in Hoopeston. He preceded her in death in 1994.
She graduated from John Greer High School in Hoopeston and worked briefly in Chicago. While her husband pursued a degree in veterinary medicine at the University of Illinois - Urbana, Doris worked as a secretary for the University’s Housing Division. The couple moved to Seaton in 1953, where “Doc” established his own veterinary practice. They raised their family, lived and worked in Seaton for more than 40 years.
Doris was a member of Seaton Center Presbyterian Church, a member and past officer of P.E.O. Sisterhood Chapter AG, and a member of Oakview Country Club, Aledo. She enjoyed playing cards and golf and loved a wide variety of music, particularly jazz, standards and musical theater. She had a keen eye for interior decorating and she was an excellent baker and cook, locally-renowned for her coconut crème pie and New York-style cheesecake. She was the color and music at the heart of her family.
She is survived by her daughters Kim Kingry of Taunton, MA, and Jennifer Kingry of Geneseo.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Jean, brothers Cy and Bernard, her husband and a son, Jay, who died in 1991.
