Betty Eckhardt, 89 of Aledo, died Sunday, May 6, 2012 at the Mercer County Nursing Home. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:00 AM at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. Burial will be in Hamlet Cemetery. Visitation is Tuesday from 4 to 7 PM at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Hamlet-Perryton Presbyterian Church.
Betty was born on February 1, 1923 in Reynolds, Illinois to William & Frances (Wiggins) Curtis. She married Perry Eckhardt on September 12, 1945 in Bremerton, Washington. He preceded her in death on March 24, 1987.
Betty was a member of the Hamlet Perryton Presbyterian Church, where she was Church Elder from 1989 through 1994. She was also a member of the Home Extension Board from 1989 – 1993. Betty was a member of the Perryton Home Extension Unit from 1974 -1997, when it disbanded. She then joined the Hamlet Unit. Betty also enjoyed playing the organ, working with her flowers and playing cards with her cousins. She adored her granddaughter and great-granddaughters.
Those left to cherish Betty’s memory include her son and daughter-in-law: Gary & Faye Eckhardt of Aledo and a granddaughter and her family: Megan, Shane, Bailey and Abigail Petersen of Davenport. She was preceded in death by her parents; her grandmother, Sarah Wiggins, who raised her; her husband; a son, Benjy on August 24, 1968; a brother, Lytle Curtis and a half brother, Wallace Curtis and her beloved dog, Cubbie.
