Funeral services for Ellsworth “Maggie” Magedanz, 61 of Aledo, are Friday at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church of Aledo. Burial will be in New Boston Cemetery. Visitation is Thursday from 4 to 8 PM at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. Memorials may be made to the Aledo Fire Department or Relay for Life.
Ellsworth died on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
Ellsworth was born on June 8, 1950 in Chicago, Illinois to Ellsworth J. & Gertrude (Wilson) Magedanz. He married Debbie Shepherd on March 14, 1970 at the New Boston United Methodist Church.
Ellsworth was a talented bricklayer, working with Seedorff Masonry of Strawberry Point, Iowa for 28 years. His talent can be seen in many buildings in the area such as the John Deere Commons and the Black Hawk Hotel. He was a member of the Bricklayers Union and the “Oldtimer Club” with Seedorff. In his spare time he enjoyed the outdoors by boating, snowmobiling, riding his Harley and lately attending car shows with his Camero. He also enjoyed playing internet poker and looking for car parts on e-bay. He was a devoted and loving grandfather who was very proud of his grandchildren.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Debbie; 2 children: Michele Joseph and her husband, Josh of Peoria and Dan Magedanz and companion Cara Brown of Aledo; 6 grandchildren: Sophia Joseph; Sydney, Madison and Trenton Magedanz, Josie Brown and Blakeley Murdock; sisters: Linda Cameron and husband, Junior of Matherville and Bea Ryan and husband, Brad of Warrenville, IL; a half-brother, William Stoneking of Arizona and his mother-in-law, Floy Minden of Topeka, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Joyce Scovil.
