Bessie Ramsey, 104 of New Boston, died Sunday, January 29, 2012 at the Mercer County Nursing Home. Funeral Services will be Thursday at 10:00 AM at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. The Reverend John Thieryoung will officiate. Visitation is one hour prior to services, beginning at 9:00 AM. Burial will be in New Boston Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St Catherine’s Catholic Church, Aledo, where Bessie was a member.
Bessie was born on January 24, 1908 in Fort Madison, Iowa to Antonio and Mary (Delgado) Compas. She married Arthur Ramsey on March 1, 1924 in Galva, Illinois. He preceded her in death.
Bessie was employed with Eagle Signal Company in Davenport for 27 years. She enjoyed fishing, gardening and raising her chickens and many other animals. Bessie was musically talented, playing both the mandolin and the fiddle.
Bessie is survived by her sisters, Josephine Hillbert of Moline and Juanita “Teenie” Wheeler of Milan and many nieces and nephews including, Tom Nelson of Joy and Betty Thompson of Viola. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers: John and Frank Compas and a sister, Mary Nelson.
