Velva Ruth Mayhew

Velva Mayhew, 87 of Aledo, died Friday, May 11, 2007 at the Mercer County Hospital. Services will be Tuesday at 11:00 AM at Speer Funeral Home. Burial will be in Hamlet Cemetery. Visitation is Monday from 5 to 8 PM at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Antioch Baptist Church. Velva Ruth was born on February 11, 1920 in Mendon, Missouri to Walter C. & Maude F. (Brown) Joseph. She married Myron V. Mayhew on December 30, 1939 in Clinton, Iowa. He preceded her in death on May 17, 1993. Velva was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church; enjoyed gardening and helped her husband on the family farm. Velva is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Warren R. & Mary Mayhew of Aledo; 2 grandchildren: Lindsey Stevenson, and her husband, Mars and Travis Mayhew; 2 step-grandchildren: Greg & Kris Martens and 1 step-great-grandchild: Brandy Pizano. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant daughters, Linda & Lavata; infant son, Lavern; brothers: Eugene, Duane & Walter “Joe” Joseph and sisters: Rosalee Walters, Bernadine Vearier and Donna Cornwall.
