Funeral Services for Virgil L. Anderson, 87 of Aledo, will be Saturday at 11:00 AM at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. Visitation is from 9 to 11 AM, prior to services. Burial will be in Aledo Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Mercer County Nursing Home.
Virgil died on Monday, April 2, 2007 at the Mercer County Nursing Home, Aledo.
Virgil Leonard Anderson was born on August 27, 1919 in Viola, Illinois to Leonard John & Florence Evelyn (Anderson) Anderson. He attended Brushwood School in Viola.
Virgil and Audrey L. Kettering were united in marriage on August 27, 1948 in Quincy, Illinois. She preceded him in death on December 30, 1994.
Virgil’s whole life was farming. He began working on the farm at a very young age, but got his start farming on his own by doing custom baling. Before retirement Virgil farmed southeast of Aledo. He enjoyed visiting with his friends and neighbors over a cup of coffee.One of the greatest joys of his life was spending time with his grandson Blake.
Virgil was a member of the College Avenue Presbyterian Church.
Virgil is survived by a daughter & son-in-law: Joyce & Daryl Kadel of Joy; a son: Rev. Fred Anderson of Aledo; a grandson, Blake Kadel of Joy; 3 sisters: Marian Fisher of Marion, IA; Helen Burbridge of Pittsfield, IL and Marye Patterson of Quincy, IL.
