Madeline (Speer) Johnson

Madeline (Speer) Johnson, 96 of Temple City, CA, died December 29, 2010 in California. Memorial services will be held on January 16, 2011 at 3:00 PM at Temple City Christian Church, 9723 Garibaldi Ave, Temple City, CA 91780. Madeline Ruth Speer was born on the family farm in Ohio Grove Township, Mercer County, Illinois to Ernest & Vesta (Bloomer) Speer. She married Paul Johnson. Together they founded Madeline Ceramics, which later became Madeline Originals and had a successful pottery business for over 40 years. Madeline was a faithful member of the Temple City Christian Church where she loved working with the Junior High Youth Group. She was also a member of the N.S.D.A.R, serving as Regent of the Pasadena Chapter. Madeline enjoyed painting, gardening and hiking, which included a memorable hike up Mt. Whitney. She also enjoyed her summer trips back to Illinois to visit family and friends. Madeline is survived by her children: Sterling (Shelley) Johnson, Marla (Orrick) Hampton; a daughter-in-law, Janet Johnson and 9 grandchildren, all of California and her brother, Stanley (Bettie) Speer of Aledo. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Randall; sisters, June Chatterton and Ernestine Boyd.
